Story
About the Fresh Foodbank
The Fresh Foodbank started in March, at a community centre on the Merton/Croydon border. Shortly after opening, we had to move to the church hall down the road because demand rose, more donations were coming in, and we needed larger premises to meet the surging demand.
When did you first get help from us?
I heard through local networks that fresh food was available and that your organisation had recently formed. At first we only asked for assistance when there were food shortages, but this then grew and the Dons Local Action Group became a large part of the donations we now receive.
What was the situation like before we became involved?
We had some food donations before, but it was mainly cupboard food and not fresh items. We really wanted to consistently provide quality fresh food to our recipients but weren’t able to.
How do we help you?
The fresh food we are now able to offer has had a huge impact, it has been fantastic for the families and other people we help.
How has this help impacted the Fresh Foodbank?
The majority of food we now supply is from Dons Local Action Group, it’s about 80-90% of all the food we donate. We’re then able supply food for 50-70 families a week.
