Story
About Tooting Community Kitchen
We’re a big family of volunteers and guests! We serve the homeless and vulnerable freshly prepared hot meals at our twice weekly stalls. It all began in 2018, we started serving meals on Tooting High Street with one table, and now we have eight tables. Over the past year we have also made available an interim foodbank for the community and offer a home delivery service.
When did you first get help from us?
We’ve had help since the beginning of the first lockdown in March 2020. We now receive fresh fruit and vegetables as well as dried food items on a regular basis.
What was the situation like before we became involved?
We didn’t have fresh fruit and vegetables before, we mainly had non-fresh food and bakery items. As we’ve been able to stay open over the pandemic many more families have come to us for support. This means we’ve grown really quickly in the past year.
How do we help you?
Dons Local Action Group have been a really reliable presence. They provide a variety of quality fresh food each week, as well as non-perishable food items and nappies.
How has this help impacted your work?
The help we get has been tremendous and it means we can provide support to many more families. We are very reliant on you. Without this support we wouldn’t have got this far. Knowing that each week we can give our network fresh, nutritional food has been crucial to our growth as a charity.

Dons Local Action Group have been so kind and caring. They have a great system in place and everything is ready on time each week. The compassion of the volunteers and leadership team has been amazing. Craig (Head of Operations) has a heart of gold.
