Our background
Keep Kids Connected (KKC) – part of registered charity Dons Local Action Group (DLAG) – is a small team of techie volunteers who share the belief that technology can enable brighter futures. We formed in April 2020 in response to lockdown and the demand for laptops for children to engage in remote learning. Since this time, we have delivered over 3,300 donated laptops, but there is still a large number of families and individuals without access to technology.
Who we help
We operate out of the three London boroughs – Merton, Kingston and Wandsworth. Within these boroughs we support disadvantaged children, families who are undergoing hardship, special needs pupils, recently arrived refugees and those we feel would benefit from technology to further their future prospects.
To ensure our devices go to those most deserving, we work closely to meet referral requests from local schools and councils’ children’s services teams, as well as local charities and support groups.
Just a few examples of our support include:
Chromebook laptops for primary school children.
iPads to help blind and wheelchair bound children.
Specialist Macbook Pro devices to help film studies students who are studying A-levels and going onto university.
What our partners think
What we are looking for
As a charity, we are wholly reliant on donations from individuals and businesses.
We are able to refurbish and utilise laptops which are up to 8 years old, however we find devices which originally shipped with Windows 10 or 11 perform best.
Where possible, we ask for power supplies, however we can source these ourselves if necessary. We also have some demand for tablets, which are up to 4-5 years old.
We are extremely grateful for donations of any size – we have received donations of single laptops from sole traders, to several hundred devices from multinational companies.
How we work
We can usually collect devices from your premises within M25 and surrounding areas.
Upon receipt, our technical team log and fully refurbish devices – this includes secure data destruction, testing and upgrading of components where required.
We can work with your organisation’s IT team around data cleansing, ensuring we meet your requirements. If you’d prefer to provide devices without storage, then we are able to source our own SSD drives. If your organisation requires the signing of a disclaimer around ownership transfer, then we are happy to provide this.
Finally, we take care of PAT testing before delivering devices to end users.

Do you sanitise disks of laptops?
Yes we can securely erase hard disk and SSDs to your organisation’s standards.
What standards do you erase to?
We can erase to whatever your require. Common supported standards are: US DoD 5220.22M, NIST 800-88 and British HMG IS5.
Do you accept devices without hard disks/solid state disks?
Yes, we are happy to receive devices without storage if you wish to retain disks.
What do you do with donated laptops?
Following refurbishing and PAT testing, our devices are donated to needy individuals and groups within the London boroughs of Merton, Wandsworth and Kingston.
Can you collect devices from our offices?
Yes, we have transport to collect laptop donations in the City of London, and in/around south west London.
Can you provide a certificate of destruction?
Absolutely.
Can you sign an agreement which formally transfers ownership of devices?
Yes. We also have a template we can share, if you require.
Do you accept donations of faulty devices?
Yes, we can accept faulty laptops if they come as part of a identical or similar devices. We have teams of volunteers who can repair such devices and purchase spares where necessary.
Do you accept devices without chargers or power supplies?
Yes – we are able to source power supplies for devices so are happy to accept bare devices.
We aren’t able to donate digital devices. Can we purchase devices instead?
