Furniture poverty is not always visible, however, at least 14 million people in the UK can’t afford one or more essential household items*. End Furniture Poverty recently found that there was a significant positive impact on financial security and mental health of the furniture recipients.**
*Poverty and Social exclusion (PSE) project, data from 2013. **End of Furniture Poverty, No place like home, Jan 2021.
A man we’ve been supporting for the last 10 months moved into a flat yesterday. He’s been homeless for 35 years, until now. We couldn’t be happier, thanks to Dons Local Action Group for helping sort out furniture for the flat!
What furniture do we collect?
To date, Dons Local Action Group has delivered over 200 items to local households. We now want to increase the support we can offer to tackle furniture poverty
We are only able to accept items in very good condition and without stains or damage. At present, we cannot take any soft furnishings, mattresses or cookers. Disposing of unsuitable items is costly, so we can only accept unwanted furniture donations that meet our requirements.
Our most commonly requested items are:

Sofas

Bed frames

Dining tables & chairs

Bunk beds

Bedroom storage

Fridges

Desks

Fridge freezers
Provided that your item is in good condition and free of damage and stains you can donate it. Please email our volunteers to arrange a collection: donatefurniture@donslocalaction.org
How it works
Step 1
Our volunteers will reply to your email to arrange either a virtual or in-person viewing of the item and then agree a date for collection, if it matches our requirements.
Step 2
We will pick up the furniture from your home. All white goods will be PAT tested by a registered electrician.
Step 3
We will deliver your donated furniture to its new home where it will be given a new lease of life.
