Food
How can I get food from DLAG?
You need to be referred by an organisation such as social services or a charity. They will contact us on your behalf to arrange support.
How long do I receive support for?
We provide 8 weeks of emergency support. This can be used in consecutive weeks or spread out over time, depending on your circumstances and requirements.
What if I don't eat certain things?
We are happy to discuss your specific requirements. For example, if you are gluten intolerant, we will factor that into the food parcels we bring you to ensure you have suitable items.
How do you get the food?
We collect most of our food from generous shoppers at our DLAG stalls outside local shops. We also receive donations from generous food partners.
How do we get the food?
Our volunteer delivery drivers will bring the food parcels directly to you at your home.
Is it only food that comes in the packs?
Often, we can supply nappies and other essential items, depending on availability and your specific needs.
Keep Kids Connected
What is Keep Kids Connected?
Keep Kids Connected is an initiative by the Dons Local Action Group (DLAG) aimed at combating digital poverty. We collect donated laptops, refurbish them, and distribute them to children who lack access to online learning resources.
How can I donate a laptop?
You can donate a laptop by visiting our website and filling out the donation form. We accept laptops in working condition, which are then securely wiped, refurbished, and distributed to students in need.
What kind of laptops do you accept?
We accept laptops that are in working condition and can support basic educational use. If you’re unsure whether your laptop meets the criteria, you can get in touch with us for guidance.
Can I donate other devices, such as tablets or desktops?
Yes, we also accept tablets and desktops, provided they are in working condition. All devices will be refurbished and given to children who need them for learning.
Is my data safe if I donate my laptop?
Yes. Before passing a laptop on, we ensure all data is completely wiped. However, we also recommend that donors remove any personal data before handing over their device.
How are the laptops distributed?
We work with schools and charities to identify children who need a device. The refurbished laptops are then allocated directly to those who need them most.
How else can I support Keep Kids Connected?
Aside from donating a laptop, you can volunteer with us to help with collections, refurbishments, or distributions. Financial donations are also welcome, as they help cover refurbishment and software costs.
Furniture
Where do you collect furniture from?
We collect furniture from the 3 boroughs of Wandsworth, Merton, and Kingston.
What items do you collect?
We collect essential items such as beds, wardrobes, chests of drawers, and more. For a full list of items, click here.
How quickly can you pick up my donated item?
It can take anywhere from a day to a couple of weeks to schedule a pick-up, so please contact us as early as possible.
Do you disassemble or reassemble furniture such as beds and tables?
Unfortunately, we do not have the volunteer resources to disassemble or reassemble/installation furniture.
How can I register to receive items if I am in need?
To receive items, you must be referred to us by a third party, such as the Council, another charity, or your GP.
What will happen if I have been referred?
Once you’ve been referred, we will contact you to discuss your exact needs, access, and delivery details. Please note, we are all volunteers and operate in order of referral.
DLAG in Tune
Who will benefit from the instrument that I donate?
They will go to our partners, The Jack Lonergan Foundation, who work across South London to provide free instruments and tuition to children from low-income families to enable them to develop their musical skills.
What condition do the instruments need to be in?
The Jack Lonergan Foundation will fully assess each instrument, and where necessary make repairs, replace strings or reeds and ensure that it is in good condition before finding a new home for it.
What instruments do you need?
We’re happy to receive string, woodwind, brass, percussion and electronic instruments, but sadly we’re not able to collect and distribute pianos. If you’re in any doubt, then please get in touch.
How can I donate an instrument?
Get in touch with us at dlagintune@donslocalaction.org and we’ll let you know of a collection point near you. We may also be able to collect.
DLAG in Uniform
What is DLAG in Uniform?
DLAG in Uniform is our initiative to collect unbranded school uniforms from schools and redistribute them to other schools where they are most needed. This promotes a circular economy, prevents waste, and supports families by reducing costs.
What type of uniforms do you collect?
We collect unbranded school uniforms such as trousers, shorts, skirts, shirts, jumpers, and other basics suitable for primary and secondary school children.
Do uniforms need to be washed before donation?
Ideally, uniforms should be washed before they are donated. However, this is not our responsibility, and we do not refuse items if they are not freshly cleaned.
